Drawings and Collage, 2017-2021
Miguel's drawings and mixed media work are mostly based on experimentation with analogue and digital formats. He works with traditional cut out and collage technique, drawing, painting as well as digital mash ups of found, data mined and sampled media. The Ink and graphite drawings were exhibited at his first solo exhibition titled "1970's Selfie". They are the artists interpretations of 18th century drawings of fish sourced from the "Encyclopédie d'histoire naturelle; ou, traité complet de cette science d'après les travaux des naturalistes les plus éminents de tous les pays et de toutes les époques" Buffon, Daubenton, Lacépède, G. Cuvier, F. Cuvier, Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire, Latreille, De Jussieu, Brongniart, 1860. The drawings are updated or augmented with decased cathode ray tubes, a reflection on the normalisation of waste as integral to our conceptualisation of the "natural" in early the 21st century.
